Thales Silencer
In 2010, Thales started experimenting with different design for platter clamp to match their turntables. A platter clamp seems simple, but the achievable sound improvement depends on many factors. For an ideal sound result, the record itself should be held gently flat and be effectively damped without creating internal stress.
The Thales Silencer is based on a unique approach: a conical hollow body made of aluminium is filled with tens of thousands of tiny bronze spheres. These spheres rest on the record label, separated only by a wafer-thin silicone skin. This technology dampens unwanted vibration energy with maximum efficiency and at the same time keeps the record flat and stress-free.
