Thales
Micha Huber
Micha Huber was trained both as a mechanical engineer and a professional musician. After his basic training in engineering, he was working five years in the field of developing finest Swiss watches. In parallel, he studied music for six years and acted as music teacher. With the invention of the Thales Tonearm and the foundation of HiFiction AG, his dream of combining music and mechanics, culture and precision, became reality.

History
Even at a young age, Micha Huber was looking for a way to combine the advantages of a conventional pivoted tonearm and those of a linear tangential pick-up arm. His solution method is based on the well-known elementary school aid to construct a tangent: the Thales' circle. After much thought and calculations, a three-dimensional mechanical solution emerged that satisfies all the requirements placed on a modern pick-up system. The long-cherished dream of geometrically correct tracking with low friction pivoted bearings became reality. A new patent was added to the dozens of existing patents that testify to this dream: CH 694567 Tangential Pivoted Tonearm, announced in May 2004. Micha Huber has founded HiFiction AG in 2008 and has since then constantly expanded and refined the portfolio, technology and musical standards of the Thales brand.

Design
All Thales products are characterized by elegant and noble design with a touch of understatement. We do not follow the tendency to spoil material but underline the technical approach and the inner values related to watchmaking and craftmanship. Shape, material and surface are the result of a carefully executed engineering process, to make sure every single part performs its function in the overall concept perfectly. Several international awards honour our design work.

Manufactory
All Thales products are manufactured in fine craftsmanship, combining state-of-the-art technology in development and production with traditional watchmaking. As a result of our experience, numerous international awards confirm our components to be unique works of art. All parts for Thales products are machined in Switzerland, and we are working with selected local suppliers for many years. These partners are often involved in the development phase of a product, so that the requirements for professional production processes can be considered at an early stage. The production hall is located in Turbenthal (near Zurich Airport) in an old spinning mill from 1833.
